Staines
Martial arts
A friendly, community martial arts club training in Japanese JuJitsu and open to all adults, no matter grade or experience.

About Us
We are a friendly, community club dedicated to training purely for the love of the art. We have always run on a non-profit basis, ensuring that we can share the training we love with as many people as possible and never be swayed by what is most in trend or profitable.
We welcome all adults of all experience levels, from complete beginners to long-time students of other styles.
When and where do we train?
Our classes run 8pm until 10pm Wednesday and Thursday in the Staines Boat Club building on the River Thames.

What do I need before I start?
Absolutely nothing apart from a drive to learn and a positive attitude! Being a non-profit club there is absolutely no compulsion to buy branded kit or expensive memberships. If you decide to join then membership and insurance is £15 per year and classes are £5 per night but your first class is free!
Why do we train?
People come to train with us for many reasons, whether to improve their fitness and strength, to learn a new skill or to boost their confidence but ultimately we believe in what we teach, not just as a form of defence, but as an art form. After many years we have continued for the sheer love of training. None of our instructors take home a penny from the club, we have only ever trained for the love of the artand the wish to share it with others.
What is training with us like?
We train primarily in Japanese Jujitsu, a practical art which has remained relevant and effective throughout the centuries.
Japanese JuJitsu is a diverse style which incorporates striking, throwing, locking and ground fighting – something for all tastes. We keep our training fresh by incorporating elements our instructors have learned from their vast experience in Thai Boxing, Aikido, Judo and Jeet-Kune-Do, to offer the most comprehensive training possible. Our training is very physical but we are all here to learn and support each other so we will only ever work within the capabilities of our training partners, we never want anyone to be injured and we want every person to love and thrive within their training. We aren’t about who can beat whom, the only person you compete against is yourself and aim to beat the ‘you’ of yesterday.

How do I get started?
If you are interested in our classes then the best thing to do is pop down to one of our sessions, meet the members, see what we do and jump in and give it a try!
We train Wednesday and Thursday 20:00 – 22:00
but feel free to contact us if you have any questions!
Our club cultivates a mindset that we should be constantly learning. We never discourage students from training in other classes; many of our students do. All of our instructors train in various styles to gain greater understanding. We always welcome questions and nurture intrigue; if we don’t know the answer then we know what to study!
All of our instructors train vigorously to ensure that our teaching truly works. We learn by doing and we teach by example, if we can’t make a technique work then we can’t expect to be able to teach it. Conversely, everyone is different and we are well versed in tailoring techniques to meet the abilities of anyone who walks into our classes. Martial arts are for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or disability. No matter your ability, fitness level or experience, our aim through training is to improve on where you started.
There are many ways of defining this, but to us this is attitude, it is emotion and it is mental wellbeing. We want every student to leave a class feeling better than when they entered. We try to cultivate an environment where everyone feels safe and at home. We actively discourage any form of bullying or toxic attitudes and strive for a club where members are comfortable enough to discuss any issues they may have as this is the only way we grow emotionally and we learn best in an open culture of respect and understanding.
Many clubs, activities and organisations speak about “mind, body and spirit” and it is easy to do so but what keeps a club going is passion’. We love what we teach and we love to train and that is what keeps our club going week after week, year after year.
We are a non-profit club and we always have been, although we run charity events and strive to raise funds for good causes the club has always been run for love alone and decades later none of us take home a penny. We train because it is what we love to do and we want to share that passion with others.
